Outdoor Living at House of Houghton

Outdoor Living

With the British Summertime doing what we hope it would do every summer… that is blessing us with gorgeous warm weather, evenings and long drawn out evenings… it’s no wonder outdoor living has become a style obsession. We cook outside, we drink outside, we relax outside, our entire lives have become centred round our lawns and hedgerows.

Interior designers, style enthusiasts and everyone in between have turned their heads in search of the most fashion-forward garden accessories, so we’ve outlined this season’s must-have that are sure to impress this summer.

Your Garden Oasis

In years gone by, you could practically reach the kitchen sink with an outstretched arm when sat outside. Patios, decking and dining areas were placed as close to the kitchen as possible to make them easily accessible and creating a short journey for you to carry your dining experience outdoors.

Yet this year, we’re moving further into the garden in a bid to find our own oasis right there in the garden. Further away from the hustle and bustle of the daily household, set your outdoor dining area up in the deepest of green surroundings and really relax.

The answer… trays! We love our slate trays, which will keep that au natural atmosphere on point. Investing in ice buckets to store drinks will also keep those trips down to a minimum. Have a look at our gorgeous Huntsman Wooden Wine Cooler for inspiration.

Home Comforts

Creating a cosy ambiance for your garden oasis is easily achieved with the help of cushions and throws – adding a pop of character, colour and texture at the same time. Place cushions on your garden furniture to give them an extra edge. Whether bold and bright, or full of character like our Voyage Maison animal collection, they are easily adapted to your garden style.

And, for when the sun finally does decide to say goodnight, have a throw on hand to cover up. Our range of faux fur and soft pom pom styles promise to keep you warn enough to see the evening out long into the night.

We hope you have a fantastic summer!

Avid trend followers here at House of Houghton, it’s not hard to see why we’re in love with the world of fashion too.

So when East Anglia’s newest fashion event, The Style Edit was announced, we knew we had to get involved in some way.

Taking place on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th May from 6pm until late at The Granary Barns in Woodditton, Cambridgeshire, the event is set to showcase an eclectic array of high street, independent labels and online brands across the evening.

With a runway show taking centre stage on the evening, guests will also be invited to shop amongst a handpicked line up of pop up shops offering everything from bowl foods, homeware, braid bars and so much more.

Supported by Cambridgeshire’s Pinkster Gin, guests will be able to enjoy a complimentary G&T before browsing the line-up and finally taking their seats to watch the show.

Hosting a charity prize draw throughout both evenings in aid of the East Anglian Air Ambulance Service, the event will also give back to the life-changing local facility, with prizes donated by more local businesses, including yours truly at House of Houghton.

Tickets are already on sale, but with a goody bag looking fit to burst we can see why they’re flying out the door. For the £15 cover price, ticket holders will receive a ticket to Newmarket Racecourses Winter Ladies Day meeting, a sample of Gin Jam from Pinkster Gin, several beauty treats and a little something from us here at House of Houghton.

New Year 2018 at House of Houghton

Wellness In Your Home

We love staying up to date with the latest trends here at House of Houghton. Avid readers of Ideal Home, this month’s blog on wellness in interiors definitely caught our interest.

Window dressing experts, Hilarys, and beauty expert, Liz Earle, presented their top tips on how to bring well-being into your home, identifying it as a big trend for 2018.

We couldn’t agree more. As more and more of us spend more time working at home, opt for the cosy night in front of the fire and generally increase the amount of time we spend in our carefully crafted homes, it’s no wonder we need to take care of it.

Installing a mix of environments to suit your home’s need will ensure you stay on track with the day’s task. From predictable ‘eat better’ ‘exercise more’ ‘get more sleep’ New Year’s resolutions we attempt year on year, choosing products to aid these mantras can make them last… well until February at least!

Healthy Eating

As the saying goes – you eat with your eyes – so make sure your food looks as appetising as possible. Gorgeous green salads, tossed with colourful vegetables and drizzled with the lightest, most flavoursome dressing become a work of art when placed in one our stunning stainless steel bowls. Served with our polished steel knot salad servers, and you know you’ll end up going back for seconds – and why not!

Sleep Easy

Creating a calm, luxurious environment in which to rest your head can solve even the toughest of challenges. Starting the day refreshed, revitalised and raring for anything that’s thrown at you will not only make that early morning trip to the gym bearable, but you’ll even be a pleasure in the morning. Trust us!

Beautiful, faux fur and cosy, our Katrina Hampton throws continue to be one of our most popular products as the winter temperatures continue to drop. Whether you want to relax in the evening, snuggled in one of our large throws or simply want to bury your head in the vast number of cushions we have on offer, this collection promises to delight.

Lighten Up

Following on from the above article mentioned, we couldn’t go on without discussing lightening. Bring as much light into your home as possible to really feel inspired this month. Whether its de-cluttering the windowsills to allow as much natural light in during the day, or simply adding lights to your rooms to battle the early sunset.

Our lighting section continues to grow, but we love Preserve Jar Wall Light that suits all sorts of homes from retro to cottage to modern…

Whatever your New Year’s Resolution is this year, we at House of Houghton want to wish you all a very prosperous year ahead and thank you for your continued support.
